Stop and smell the flowers with us on America’s Garden Capital Tour. Immerse yourself in the opulence of historic mansions nestled amidst a kaleidoscope of blooming flowers, each exuding its own luxurious aroma. Embark on a journey through enchanting landscapes as we explore iconic destinations such as Hagley Museum, Winterthur Museum, Library and Gardens, Nemours Estate, Mt. Cuba Botanical Center, and Longwood Gardens. But the experience doesn’t stop there. Delve into the vibrant local art scene at the Brandywine River Museum and Delaware Museum of Art, where the works of talented artists are on display. Join us and let this be a feast for your senses, a serene escape where every moment is filled with inspiration and relaxation.
Day 1: We depart bright and early and set our course for the state of Delaware where we come to rest in Wilmington. We will check into our hotel for a relaxing 4-night stay. Unpack and unwind from your travels.
Day 2: After our included breakfast, we will enjoy a guided tour of the Hagley Museum, an indoor-outdoor museum experience featuring the brand-new Nation of Inventors exhibition celebrating diverse stories of American innovation. Tour the first du Pont family home and gardens in America. Take in the natural beauty of the Brandywine River which runs through the museum grounds. This afternoon, arrive at Longwood Gardens, one of the greatest gardens in the world and living expression of their founder, Pierre S du Pont. From the intricate fountain systems to the meticulous gardens to the architecture grandeur, awe-inspiring discoveries await at every turn. We’ll return to the hotel to refresh before our included dinner at Buckley’s Tavern. B, D
Day 3: After breakfast we will explore the Nemours Estate, 200 acres of stunning French-inspired gardens, grounds, and woodlands. Molded after the gardens at the Palace of Versailles – complete with fountains, mazes, towers, monuments, nature trails and more – this breathtaking landscape will amaze and inspire you. In the Mansion, see how the du Ponts worked, played, and entertained, and hear the fascinating stories of the staff tasked with running the house. This afternoon we will visit the Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. An unparalleled collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in the United States since 1640 is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the family of founder Henry Francis du Pont called it home. Dinner will be included this evening at Brandywine Prime. B, D
Day 4: This morning, we will tour the Mt. Cuba Center, a botanical garden whose woodlands produce some of the most spectacular displays of wildflowers in the mid-Atlantic region. Lunch will be included today. This afternoon, we visit Delaware Art Musuem. Enjoy their magnificent collection, plus visit the outdoor Coperland Sculpture Garden. We will enjoy our farewell dinner at a local favorite! B,L,D
Day 5: After breakfast we will set our sights for home. Plan to arrive this evening, with memories of lovely gardens, flowers and more to share with family and friends. B
