B, L

Day 4:  After breakfast and check-out, we meet our guide for a day of touring in Vermont.  We begin with a visit to the Green Mountain Sugarhouse.  Visit this family-owned Sugarhouse and learn how they make maple syrup.  Try a Maple Creamee and shop in their store with many Vermont items and gifts. Enjoy some time to explore and have lunch on your own in Woodstock, a quaint village that also features a “Covered Bridge”. We see Quechee Gorge, Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon” and then travel to New Hampshire, the Granite state.  We board the Lake Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad for a complete Roast Turkey Dinner.  After the train ride we will check into our hotel for our two-night stay. B, D

Day 5:  After breakfast, we meet our local guide at our Inn.  Today, we will enjoy a driving tour of the Franconia Notch area, driving through the White Mountains. We will visit The Rock Estates in Bethlehem where they will talk about their Christmas Tree Farm and NH Land Preservation by their on-site naturalist.  Lunch will be on our own in Littleton, plus a stop at Chutters General Store.  We will ride on portions of the Kancamagus Highway, a tour that includes breathtaking views along this famous highway.  Stop for some scenic fall-foliage photos!  Next is a ride on the Loon Mountain Gondola for spectacular views of the area.  Dinner is included prior to returning to the hotel.  After a full day, relax this evening back at the hotel. B, D

Day 6:  Today, we travel to Portsmouth in the NH sea coast region. At Strawbery Banke you step over the threshold of history…into life in one of our country’s oldest waterfront neighborhoods. Strawbery Banke is a 10-acre living-history museum that has preserved the lifestyles and traditions of four centuries of New Englanders.  Here you can see 40 buildings – most on their original sites.  Strawbery Banke tells the stories of a neighborhood over time.  Have lunch on your own in Portsmouth. This afternoon we cross over the border and visit Maine’s oldest town. Our local guide shows us York, featuring a historic neighborhood, York Harbor, dotted with lobster boats and seaside cottages and York Beach.  Stop for a photo at Maine’s southernmost lighthouse, the Nubble Light in Cape Neddick. From Nubble Light you will also spot the infamous Boon Island Lighthouse, located just offshore.  Your tour ends with a stop at Stonewall Kitchen to see the manufacturing of Maine-made condiments and receive a tasty little gift.  Arrive in Wells, Maine for a two-night stay with dinner included this evening. B, D

Day 7:  Depart for Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, home to the famous Marginal Way shoreline walking path with spectacular ocean views.  We have some free time to explore Perkins Cove with its quaint shops and galleries – or stroll along the Marginal Way. Board a special Lobster Tour Boat to learn how the Maine lobstermen made their living.  This one-hour, narrated cruise combines the scenic beauty of Ogunquit’s shoreline with a first-hand lobstering view. After the cruise we head to Kennebunkport for some free time of shopping and lunch on our own in Dock Square.  There are many quaint boutiques and casual restaurants along the waterfront.  This afternoon our guide takes us for a narrated tour of Kennebunkport and Kennebunk.  Drive past the sandy beaches and rocky coastline, past the George & Barbara Bush estate at Walker’s Point, hear the history of these shipbuilding towns and the legend of the Wedding Cake House.  We will also visit the Franciscan Monastery with its beautiful landscape, outdoor shrines, and chapel. Put on your souvenir lobster hat and enjoy a traditional Lobster Bake Dinner tonight. B, D

Day 8:  Today we will bid farewell to Maine and enjoy our travels to the Berkshires. We will visit the famous Norman Rockwell Museum, where a warm welcome awaits us at the home for American illustration inspired by Norman Rockwell’s legacy.  Marvel at Rockwell’s full-size original paintings, view all of 323 of his The Saturday Evening Post covers and be enchanted by special exhibitions that highlight the artistry of leading illustrators, then and now. Tonight, dinner is included at a local restaurant before checking into our hotel for the evening. B, D

Day 9: This morning after breakfast, we will visit one of the iconic Berkshire Cottages. The majority of the grand Berkshire “cottages” were built during the Gilded Age, primarily between the 1870s and 1910.  These massive summer homes, often ranging from 20,000 to over 50,000 square feet, were concentrated in Lenox and Stockbridge.  We will tour one of the “cottages” before departing for our drive to Syracuse. B

Day 10: Regretfully we begin our journey homeward.  Plan to arrive home this evening, anxious to tell our family and friends about the wonderful things we saw and did in New England and Maine! B
