Day 1: We’ll head to wild, wonderful West Virginia, high up in the mountains where you can find the headwaters of eight different rivers, waterfalls, and scenery that is spectacular. This afternoon, check in at an Elkins area hotel for our two-night stay. Enjoy dinner and entertainment at the Gandy Dancer Theatre.
Day 2: Breakfast is included before our railroad adventure. Climb aboard the New Tygart Flyer, a smooth climate-controlled passenger train with a reputation as one of the most exciting mountain wilderness excursion rides in the US. The 4-hour, 46 mile round trip features two separate mountain grades, an “S” curve tunnel, and passage into a 1,500 feet deep canyon with steep, densely forested slopes. Lunch is included onboard. Tonight, dinner is included at the Rail yard Restaurant where we enjoy the performance “The Greatest Show on Rails.” Jumpin' Tyme plays a variety of music using acoustic instruments, putting a bluegrass spin on popular and traditional songs. Our band family friendly entertainment filled with laughter and great music!
Day 3: Breakfast is included at the hotel before an early departure for Durbin, WV. This morning, we board The Durbin Rocket and ride in an authentic 1920-era coaches and vintage wooden cabooses behind Old #3 as she puffs and whistles along the free-flowing Greenbrier River in northern Pocahontas County. The ride covers 10.5 miles in two hours and offers many beautiful river and mountain views in the Monongahela National Forest. This afternoon, we depart for home anxious to share our adventure on the rails with family and friends.
