Day 1: Today we travel through Ohio and Pennsylvania where we have our overnight accommodations awaiting us near Williamsport, Pa.
Day 2: Our travels take us to beautiful Long Island today. Long Island is rich in history, outdoor adventures and natural beauty with over 50 miles of sprawling sandy beaches. This afternoon we will visit Old Westbury Gardens where we tour the magnificent Phipps Estate. After our tour we will check into our local hotel for a relaxing two-night stay. This evening we’ll enjoy the scenic water views as we enjoy our included dinner together on Long Island.
Day 3: After breakfast we depart with a local guide to enjoy a full day of sightseeing on Long Island. We will visit Southampton and East Hampton Villages. Have your cameras ready for a stop at New York’s first lighthouse, the beautiful Montauk Lighthouse. Scenery is beautiful as we see historic Sag Harbor and visit the Whaler’s Church where the wives of the sea captains went to pray for their safe return. While in the village we visit the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum. Here we will learn about the 19th century whalers who made their living in this international port. Dinner is included tonight at one of the Island’s fine restaurants.
Day 4: This morning after breakfast we depart with our first stop at the Vanderbilt Museum, the Eagle’s Nest, the summer home of the Vanderbilts. We’ll learn about what life was like on the Gold Coast during this opulent time and all about the Vanderbilts’ eclectic collections. Before departing Long island we will stop by Walt Whitman’s Birthplace state historic site and interpretive center. Step back to the 1800’s and interact with “Walt Whitman”, brought to life by the appearance of an actor/scholar re-enactor. “Walt” will be reminiscing and storytelling as he guides us through both the Interpretive Center and the 19th century farmhouse in which he was born. We then say good-bye to Long Island with regret and continue our drive to Pennsylvania for our overnight stay. We will include tonight’s farewell dinner.
Day 5: This morning we board our motorcoach for our return trip home with time to reflect on the wonderful sights and surely happy that we said Yes, Long Island!
