Thunder Bay Resort’s award-winning, elk viewing, horse-drawn carriage ride and their gourmet dinner was declared by USA Today as a “Top 10” Event! Escape with Croswell Tours to beautiful Northern Michigan and let Thunder Bay Resort treat you to an adventure like never before. Your journey will be enjoyable and informative as we take in the beauty of the Northeast Michigan scenery!
Day 1: We’ll depart bright and early this morning for our drive to Northern Michigan. We come to rest in Hillman and the Thunder Bay Resort and check in for the next two nights. Tonight, we will enjoy a dinner buffet at the Resort followed by a bonfire and s’mores. D
Day 2: This morning, after breakfast, we will depart for today’s touring to the Alpena Area. First on our list is the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, a visitor center for the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, featuring exciting exhibits. Explore the Shipwreck Century, located in the center’s main hall and includes a full-size replica wooden Great Lakes schooner and shipwreck where visitors can walk the decks, feel a Great Lakes storm, and touch the massive timbers of the boat resting on the lake bottom…without getting wet! After lunch on our own we will enjoy a visit to Stoney Acres Winery for caramel corn and wine tasting. We will then visit the Old & New Presque Isle Lighthouses. The Old Lighthouse was built to mark the entrance to Presque Isle Bay and its Harbor. During the quarter-century after the War of 1812, increasing ship traffic to and past Presque Isle led Congress in 1838 to appropriate funds for a lighthouse. It was built two years later and today is one of the oldest surviving lights on the Great Lakes. Construction of the tower and keeper’s house was completed in time for the New Light to go into service for the 1871 shipping season. This evening we will enjoy a gourmet dinner back at the resort followed by an Elk Viewing Carriage Ride pulled by beautiful draft and Percheron horses. Experience these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. You may see Bull elk, cow elk and even calves, so bring your camera! B,D
Day 3: This morning we will depart after breakfast and travel the eastern shore of Michigan to Frankenmuth. Here, we will enjoy a visit to Bronner’s Christmas Store. We will check into the Drury Inn before enjoying a city tour and delicious meal at the Bavarian Inn. B,D
Day 4: We’ll depart this morning after breakfast at the Drury and set our sights for home. We are certain that your stories of visiting Thunder Bay Resort and seeing the Elk will be shared with family and friends! B
