Springtime in Charleston & Savannah
April 19-25, 2020
Tour Number R45095
7 Days - 6 Nights - 10 Meals

This tour features two great cities of the Old South.  Historic Charleston is bursting with Southern charm and hospitality.  The city feels like it has been suspended in time…with antebellum architecture and plantation landscapes.   Savannah’s beauty, with hundreds of years of history, is magically enhanced by the quaint cobblestone streets and majestic architecture.  This tour should be on the bucket list of everyone who loves to see history come alive, delight in beautiful harbors and enjoy delicious dining!  Don’t miss the bus this spring and travel with us to Charleston and Savannah.

Day 1:   We begin our southern adventure today as we drive to the lovely state of South Carolina to our overnight destination near the state’s capital city, Columbia.

Day 2:   After our included breakfast we depart for Charleston. This historic port city is bursting with the beauty of the season, and Middleton Place Gardens is no exception.  Here we see the oldest landscaped gardens in America, laid out by Henry Middleton in 1781. One hundred slaves labored for a decade to complete the work. Middleton is a masterpiece of formal landscaping, flowers, lakes and terracing. After touring Middleton Place we arrive in Charleston and check in at our hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner is included this evening along the beautiful Charleston waterfront. B, D

Day 3:   After our included breakfast this morning we meet our local guide for a tour of historic Charleston. See impeccably preserved and restored homes, visit the Battery with some of the settlement’s earliest fortifications, and see St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Tonight we try out another great Charleston restaurant. B,D

Day 4:   After our included breakfast we enjoy a boat cruise to Fort Sumter, the place where the “War Between the States” began. In addition to seeing the fort, you’ll get a sweeping view of the historic Charleston skyline and beautiful Charleston Harbor.  Then we depart for our drive to another great city of the Old South, Beaufort, SC.  Our local guide will share many historic facts of Beaufort. A dozen movies including “Forrest Gump” have been filmed here. Then we’re off to Savannah for a two-night stay. B

Day 5:   You’re sure to love Savannah! We’ll take an informative trolley tour seeing the major attractions such as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Cotton Exchange and the historic Riverfront. We’ll include a delicious family-style lunch at Lady & Sons Restaurant. This afternoon, we catch a glimpse of Savannah the way General Edward Oglethorpe saw it in 1733 aboard the Savannah River Queen. B,L

Day 6:     We depart Savannah this morning after our included breakfast, setting our sights for our overnight visit in Asheville. Dinner is included before checking in to the hotel.  B,D

Day 7:    Today, after our included breakfast, we visit the Billy Graham Training Center, where you can visit the Chapel and Gardens. Plan to arrive back early evening after a great visit to the Old South and two of its loveliest cities…Charleston and Savannah! B
