A shoreline dotted with picturesque lighthouses.  A car-less island where historic sites recall Colonial America.  Sahara-like dunes created by the Ice Age that formed the Great Lakes.  A quaint Bavarian Village says “Willkommen” to a simple way of life. This deluxe Grand Circle Tour will highlight so much of what makes Michigan a top North American destination! Don’t miss the bus and spend a week with us exploring Michigan.

Day 1:   We’ll depart bright and early this morning and travel the beautiful western shore of Michigan to arrive in Mears for the evening.  We’ll check into our hotel and enjoy an included dinner together. D

Day 2:   Breakfast gets as started as we depart for a very full day of sightseeing.  At Silver Lake we will enjoy a scenic experience as we take a dune buggy ride across the Sahara-like dunes created by the Ice Age that formed the Great Lakes. We’ll visit the Big Sable Point Lighthouse in Ludington before driving along Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with spectacular overlooks of Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  We’ll arrive for the evening in Traverse City and check into our hotel. Dinner will be included this evening. B,D

Day 3:   After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and visit the Mission Point Lighthouse, a Traverse City icon for decades.  While it no longer guides mariners through West Grand Traverse Bay as it did from 1870 to 1933, Mission Point offers a peek into what life was like around the turn of the century for lighthouse keepers and for others who lived and worked in the area at that time.  Next we will depart for a scenic drive to Charlevoix to see the Gnome Homes, Mushroom Houses, Fairy Houses, & Smurfsville. Shaped with boulders, these rounded and curved homes with wavy, curvy roofs are known world-wide, and the only place you can see them is in Charlevoix!  You will be sure to enjoy the atmosphere of European romance at historic Castle Farms.  Hear delightful stories and rich history from its beginning in 1918 as a model farm and its rise to a National Historic Landmark.  Tour the Hedge Maze and Tower Bridge that leads to a view of the garden railroad with eight trains running on three levels.  This afternoon we will check into our Mackinaw City hotel for a two-night stay. Enjoy an included dinner and the evening at your leisure. B,D

Day 4:   A true highlight of our tour is in store today as we visit beautiful Mackinac Island.  We’ll ferry to the island and then enjoy a guided horse-drawn carriage tour.  Our luncheon will be included at the luxurious Grand Hotel, constructed in 1887 of Michigan White Pine in Greek Revival Style.  The view from the porch is spectacular.  After lunch enjoy time exploring the island, shopping or just find a bench and enjoy the view!  We’ll return to Mackinaw City this afternoon with time for you to explore on your own and enjoy the evening at your leisure.  B,L

Day 5:   Before departing we will visit another attraction of historical significance to the region, Fort Michilimackinac.  Constructed in 1715 by French soldiers and fur traders, this tiny walled community served as an important commercial depot and strategic military post for more than sixty years.  This afternoon we will arrive in the charming village of Frankenmuth where we will meet our local guide for a tour of Michigan’s Little Bavaria.  Our dinner tonight will be at the famous Bavarian Inn. B,D

Day 6:   Our final Michigan destination today is Dearborn where you will visit historic Greenfield Village, a 200-acre collective historical site with many homes and shops moved here from all over the country.   This afternoon visit the Henry Ford Museum which contains a multitude of artifacts, inventions and mementos of American society, as well as an excellent exhibit on “The Automobile in American Life”.  Our lodging this evening will be in Dearborn. B

Day 7:   Our Michigan Circle is complete as we depart for our return journey home.  Plan to arrive late this afternoon anxious to tell our family and friends about wonderful scenic and historic Michigan! B
