Day 1: We’ll depart mid-morning for our holiday getaway. We’ll stop for lunch on our own enroute. This afternoon we check into the Blue Gate Garden Inn for our one-night stay. This is a delightful hotel that gets top ratings from its guests. After refreshing we enjoy an all-you-can-eat Family Style meal at the Blue Gate Restaurant before experiencing a wonderful lights display this evening. “Lights of Joy” includes more than two million LED Christmas lights displayed in nearly a mile and a half long symphony of colorful light scenes for the holiday season. Day 2: After our breakfast, we will visit Menno-Hof, where you can experience the history and heritage of the Amish, Mennonites and Hutterites. Travel through five centuries of fascinating history, from their origins in Switzerland to their arrival in America. History unfolds as you explore a 17th century sailing ship and replicas of a 19th century print shop and meeting house. Of course, don’t forget to visit their delightful gift shop. After an included lunch, enjoy “The Christmas Tree Ship”. In November 1912, a man known as “Captain Santa” stood at the helm of The Christmas Tree Ship. It was transporting Christmas Trees from Upper Michigan to the Chicago area’s underprivileged and wealthy alike when it encountered a violent storm on Lake Michigan. Now, on a mission to keep her family’s legacy alive, his widow has to come to terms with the lake and all it represents. But can she do it? Daughter Elsie believes together they can and has a surprise in store for her mother that will change everything. This is one family’s unsinkable mission to save Christmas.
