Roscoe Village, Ohio Erie Canal Boat Ride & The Wilds
July 22-23, 2021
Tour Number R46579
2 Days-1 Night- 4 Meals

Imagine a living history community offering glimpses into the past through costumed guides that give you a flavor of life in Ohio in the 1800’s.  Learn the history of the Ohio-Erie Canal on a Canal Boat Ride and see open-range animals roaming in large, natural settings at The Wilds.  Don’t miss the bus for this delightful two-day getaway to learn more about the history and people of Ohio.

Day 1:   We’ll travel today to Roscoe Village, a restored 1800’s canal town where we’ll learn how Roscoe was once a bustling center of commerce on the Ohio and Erie Canal.  We’ll take a Living History tour where we’ll meet an 1800s working blacksmith, practice writing skills in a one-room schoolhouse and meet many other period craftsmen and artisans.  Experience history firsthand as you listen to costumed interpreters as they portray life from an earlier era.  Our lunch is included today at Roscoe Village and this afternoon you will experience a horse-drawn canal boat ride.  After our visit we will travel to nearby Cambridge where we will enjoy the downtown historic district and an included dinner this evening.  Our overnight accommodations are in Cambridge.  L,D

Day 2:   After an included breakfast at the hotel we will depart for a tour of the National Museum of Cambridge Glass.  Here you will experience the history of glassmaking through exhibits with a mock furnace, tools, molds and other items involved in the manufacturing of fine handmade glassware.  View over 9,000 pieces of elegant Cambridge Glassware as you tour the museum.  Our second stop today will be one of the most interesting you have seen, The Wilds, a private non-profit conservation center located on nearly 10,000 acres of reclaimed mind land in rural southeastern Ohio.  A guide will take us through open-range animal areas, where you’ll see rhinos, giraffes and many other rare and endangered animals roaming in large, natural settings.  Return home early this evening after a great little Ohio getaway!
