Escape from the Midwest winter weather and experience the natural beauty and rich culture of the southwest on this grand adventure. Highlights abound on this 14-day tour including Sandia Peaks, Santa Fe, Taos, Petrified Forest, Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, a day at the Grand Canyon via rail, the Meteor Crater Landmark, and more. Day 1: Sit back and enjoy the scenery as we head west today to begin our Great Southwest Adventure. Our overnight is at the Drury Inn in Springfield, Mo. Enjoy tonight’s kick-back reception.
Day 2: Our adventure continues today as we arrive in Oklahoma City this afternoon and visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. We will enjoy a dinner together this evening before settling in for the night. B, D
Day 3: This morning we include a visit to one of the most interesting museums in the country, the Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum. We then journey to Amarillo and the Drury Inn and Suites where we will enjoy the Kick-Back reception. B
Day 4: Continuing southwest we will arrive in Albuquerque, a great representative city of the southwestern and Native American culture. This afternoon we will visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The Center is one of the Southwest’s largest repositories of Native American arts and crafts. Each pueblo maintains exhibits devoted to its own culture, enabling visitors to see firsthand what distinguishes one tribe’s art from another’s. Later we will view one of America’s most stunning urban peaks aboard the Sandia Peaks Aerial Tramway. We ascend to the top of the Sandia Mountain where 11,000 square mile panoramic views await. Dinner will be included along with a visit to the gift shop and the scenic overlook. Overnight tonight at the Drury Inn Albuquerque. B, D
Day 5: We’ll depart after breakfast for our drive to Santa Fe. We will meet our local guide and enjoy touring the Loretto Chapel and learn the legend of this magnificent staircase. The design was innovative for the time and some of the design considerations still perplex experts. We will travel to Canyon Road, nestled in the foothills of Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Santa Fe boasts a magical half-mild Historic District where you can stroll this picturesque trail to experience fine art, great shopping and exquisite dining. A stop will be made at Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, a Roman Catholic Church and the Museum of Indian Arts Center and the Folk Art Museum. There is so much to do in Santa Fe you are certain to fall in love with this delightful place! Our two-night stay will be at the Drury Plaza Hotel. Enjoy time to relax and enjoy the Drury’s Kick-Back Reception. B
Day 6: We will enjoy our included breakfast prior to making a stop at the open-air Santa Fe Opera House. Next we will travel to Taos, located in northern New Mexico’s high desert bounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is famous for historic adobe buildings such as the Taos Pueblo, a multistory adobe complex inhabited by Native Americans for centuries. There are many galleries and museums showcasing regional artwork. Arrive back at the hotel in time for the Kick-Back and dinner on your own at several nearby dining spots. B
Day 7: Breakfast is included this morning before we depart for Williams, Arizona. We will pass through the Petrified National Forest to see world-renowned petrified logs amongst the colorful badlands of Arizona’s Painted Desert. This evening we will arrive and check into our hotel. Experience the luxury of a bygone era at the newly refurbished Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. The hotel is located right next door to the train depot and just a block away from downtown Williams and historic Route 66. Our dinner will be included as we savor the rail atmosphere as a model replica of the train circles the room in the restaurant! B, D
Day 8: Today we RIDE THE RAILS to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon! Enjoy a full-day adventure as we travel the same tracks that early adventurers to the Grand Canyon followed. Musicians roam the train playing the tunes of the West and each car has a Passenger Service Attendant who will share facts about the area and the canyon. You’ll arrive in Historic Village – the heart of human history at the Grand Canyon. You’ll have more than 3 hours to explore the canyon and its historic buildings and exhibits. After arriving back in Williams we will make the short drive to Sedona, our headquarters for the next three nights where we check into the Element by Marriott hotel. B
Day 9: Nestled between the massive, fire-hued rocks of Red Rock State Park and the lush gorges of Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona is named one of the most 10 most beautiful places in America by USA Today. Nature’s beauty surrounds us today as we drive through Oak Creek Canyon, described as the Grand Canyon’s little sister, the gorge’s red rock buttes tower against the clear blue sky. We will visit the iconic Chapel of the Holy Cross, constructed in the 1940’s, this prominent landmark is rated on the of the most awe-inspiring holy places to visit by National Geographic. The chapel stands at 250 feet tall, atop a 1,000 feet rock wall, featuring a stained-glass window held together by a giant cross. This afternoon we will go in-depth and learn about the proud area legacy at the Sedona Heritage Museum, located inside the Jordan Historical Park. Venture through the museum’s exhibits highlighting the early settlers, ranching and cowboys, the orchard industry – and even movies made in Sedona. We will return to the hotel to refresh before our included dinner tonight. B, D
Day 10: Today you will be free to explore Sedona on your own. Your hotel, in Sedona Vista Village, is located just steps away from breathtaking views, famous restaurants and premium shopping. Enjoy at your leisure. Later this afternoon we will visit Uptown Sedona and the Spanish-Mexican Village of Tlaquepaque to explore these wonderful areas full of art galleries, shopping opportunities and restaurants. B
Day 11: We will depart Sedona bright and early this morning for our drive to Santa Rosa, NM. Enroute we will visit the Meteor Crater Landmark and Museum, the world’s best preserved impact site. Witness the breathtaking result of a collision that happened approximately 50,000 years ago and created a hole measuring nearly one mile across and more than 550 feet deep. We will continue to Santa Rosa for our overnight stay. B
Day 12: Today we continue our drive east as we make our way to Wichita, Kansas for our overnight stay. Dinner will be enjoyed together this evening. B, D
Day 13: Our eastern journey will lead us to the Drury Plaza located at the Arch in St. Louis for our final overnight and evening together. Enjoy this beautiful city at your leisure. B
Day 14: After our included breakfast we will head for home, relaxing onboard our motorcoach for the final leg of our journey. Plan to arrive home early evening, enchanted by the Sunny Southwest and rejuvenated after our winter escape! B
