Escape from the Midwest winter weather and experience a great Western Adventure! The history of the American Cowboy, to the historic artwork of Native Americans, to an exciting historic train ride to the majestic Grand Canyon, to the Stockyards in Fort Worth, an authentic cattle drive and entertainment at the Cowtown Opry…Highlights abound on this 12-day tour!
Day 1: Sit back and enjoy the scenery as we head west today to begin our Great Southwest Adventure. Our overnight is at the Drury Inn near St. Louis. Enjoy tonight’s kick-back reception.
Day 2: Our adventure continues today as we arrive in Oklahoma City. We will enjoy a dinner together this evening before settling in for the night. B, D
Day 3: This morning we include a visit to one of the most interesting museums in the country, the Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum. We then journey to Amarillo and the Drury Inn and Suites where we will enjoy the Kick-Back reception. B
Day 4: Continuing southwest we will arrive in Albuquerque, a great representative city of the southwestern and Native American culture. This afternoon we will visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. The Center is one of the Southwest’s largest repositories of Native American arts and crafts. Each pueblo maintains exhibits devoted to its own culture, enabling visitors to see firsthand what distinguishes one tribe’s art from another’s. Later we will view one of America’s most stunning urban peaks aboard the Sandia Peaks Aerial Tramway. We ascend to the top of the Sandia Mountain where 11,000 square mile panoramic views await. Dinner will be included and overnight tonight at the Drury Inn Albuquerque. B, D
Day 5: Breakfast is included this morning before we depart for Williams, Arizona. We will pass through the Petrified National Forest to see world-renowned petrified logs amongst the colorful badlands of Arizona’s Painted Desert. This evening we will arrive and check into our hotel. Experience the luxury of a bygone era at the newly refurbished Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. The hotel is located right next door to the train depot and just a block away from downtown Williams and historic Route 66. Our dinner will be included as we savor the rail atmosphere as a model replica of the train circles the room in the restaurant! B, D
Day 6: Today we RIDE THE RAILS to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon! Enjoy a full-day adventure as we travel the same tracks that early adventurers to the Grand Canyon followed. Musicians roam the train playing the tunes of the West and each car has a Passenger Service Attendant who will share facts about the area and the canyon. You arrive in Historic Village – the heart of human history at the Grand Canyon. You have more than 3 hours to explore the canyon and its historic buildings and exhibits. Each person will receive a boxed lunch today. After arriving back in Williams, we enjoy another evening at the Railway Hotel. B,L
Day 7: We depart Williams this morning and travel to Phoenix, Arizona. There, we will visit the famous Heard Museum, a museum of native American cultures and art. Among the exhibits in its 10 galleries are contemporary, historical materials of Southwestern Native Americans, basketry jewelry, pottery and Kachina Dolls. This evening we will check into the Drury Hotel and enjoy the Kick-Back Reception. B
Day 8: We will depart Phoenix this morning with a stop in Tucson where we will visit Old Tucson, an American movie studio originally built by Columbia Pictures. Step back in time as you make your way through town, walking the same streets made famous by movie legends such as John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Elizabeth Taylor, Steve Martin, Sharon Stone and Martin Short. This afternoon we depart for Las Cruces, NM for our overnight stay. B
Day 9: We depart this morning for our travel day to Abilene, Texas. We will enjoy an included dinner together this evening. B, D
Day 10: We depart bright and early for a great day! Fort Worth, known as a rough and tumble Cowtown, it is where Texas cowboys and culture meet. We see the famous Stockyards, an authentic cattle drive, and a performance of the Cowtown Opry! Dinner will be enjoyed at an authentic Texas BBQ restaurant. We will depart after dinner for a short drive to the Drury Hotel in Richardson, Texas for our overnight stay. B, D
Day 11: After breakfast we depart for our drive to Memphis where we will overnight this evening. B
Day 12: After our included breakfast we will head for home, relaxing onboard our motorcoach for the final leg of our journey. Plan to arrive home early evening, enchanted by the Great West featuring Cowboys, Indians, and Trains and more… and rejuvenated after our winter escape! B
