Located just off the coast of northeast Florida, Amelia Island is easy to reach, but hard to forget. With 13 miles of beautiful beaches, abundant native wildlife, and pristine waters, this barrier island is a “must see” destination. This winter getaway features a three-night stay with time to relax and time to explore the island and enjoy its charm. A day trip to historic St. Augustine will enchant you with its history and charm. Our visit to the lovely southern city of Savannah and Paula Deen’s Lady & Sons will surely make this winter tour a real favorite. Don’t miss the bus and sign up early!
Day 1: We depart this morning for our getaway to Amelia Island. We will overnight enroute this evening in Columbia, SC.
Day 2: We depart after breakfast for an easy drive to Florida’s northeastern-most shore, Amelia Island. While it is easy to reach, Amelia Island is hard to forget. We arrive at Amelia Island’s Fernandina Beach, our home for the next three nights. Our hotel is just a short walking distance to the beautiful beach. B
Day 3: This morning is yours to explore and enjoy some of Amelia Island’s 13 miles of Appalachian quartz sand beaches. This afternoon we board a cruise departing from Fernandina’s historic waterfront enjoying breathtaking views of wild horses on Cumberland Island, Georgia. We see salt marshes, wilderness beaches, dolphins, sea turtles, manatees, egrets, herons, spoonbills, along with shrimp boats and luxury yachts. Later this afternoon you have time to explore Old Town Fernandina on your own. This area, with many shops and restaurants, is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. Dinner is included this evening. B, D
Day 4: After our included breakfast we have planned an excursion to nearby St. Augustine. Upon arrival, we will meet our step-on guide for a close-up look at the oldest US city. We see Flagler College, Castillo de San Marco, the famed Fountain of Youth, the Old Jail and more. Enjoy lunch on your own and walk the quaint cobblestone streets before heading back to Amelia Island. B
Day 5: We bid farewell to Amelia Island this morning and set our sights for the lovely Southern City of Savannah. Upon arrival we take an informative trolley tour seeing the major attractions such as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Cotton Exchange, and the historic Riverfront. We include a family-style lunch at Lady & Sons Restaurant. This afternoon, we set our sights for Columbia and our overnight stay. B, L
Day 6: After our included breakfast we bid farewell to the south and set our sights for home. Plan to arrive back early evening after a memorable getaway to Amelia Island. B
