Tour Number R5068
6 Days - 5 Nights - 8 Meals
Day 1: We will depart bright and early this morning as we set our sights for an exciting adventure to see beautiful quilts, the world’s largest spool of thread, historic and amazing covered bridges and most of all…have lots of fun! Tonight, we will arrive at our two-night destination in Chillicothe, Missouri and check into our local accommodations.
Day 2: After our included breakfast we depart for the short drive to Quilt Town USA, Hamilton, Missouri. This will be a fun day as we take time to explore the heart of this charming town as well as visit the famous Missouri Quilt Museum. Situated in a repurposed school, this museum houses three stories of quilts tucked into former classrooms. This new museum uses the space’s preexisting structure, including information handwritten on the chalkboards, to tell the story of the quilts and other items in the collection. Hamilton is also famous for being the boyhood home of J.C. Penney as well as the headquarters of the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Quilters come from all over the globe to tour the shops and consider Hamilton on their “bucket list”. Our dinner will be included before we return to our hotel for the evening. B, D
Day 3: After enjoying our breakfast, we will set our sights for Madison County, Iowa. Upon arrival, we will enjoy lunch on our own and then we will visit the Iowa Quilt Museum, tucked into a historic building in downtown Winterset. The Iowa Quilt Museum welcomes quilters, quilt lovers, history buffs, and all appreciators of American art and culture. We will check into our two-night accommodation and take time to refresh and enjoy the Kick-Back Reception. B
Day 4: After breakfast we will meet our local guide for an all-day tour of the Covered Bridges of Madison County as well as an Alpaca farm and flower farm! The world-famous six bridges were the inspiration behind the acclaimed novel and Hollywood film of the same name. We will get to know the bridges and follow in the footsteps of Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood on our guided tour. After our lunch we will visit the Rusty Stars Alpaca Farm, a 20-acre farm where you will meet the alpacas and learn about the process of shearing and using their fiber. We will also include a delightful, guided tour of a picturesque flower farm, led by the owners, Adam and Jenn O’Neal. This enchanting tour will take you through the flower fields, where you’ll learn about some of the varieties of flowers, sustainable farming practices, and the story behind their farm. We’ll stop by the charming farm shop with handmade goods and unique souvenirs. After a very entertaining and interesting day we will return to our hotel to refresh before our dinner this evening. B, D
Day 5: Today we will set our sights eastward and come to rest for the night in Champaign, Illinois. Tonight, enjoy the Kick-Back Reception. B
Day 6: After our included breakfast we will drive to Parke County, Indiana, which has been awarded the title of “Covered Bridge Capital of the World” with 31 historic covered bridges. We will meet our local guide who will show us several of these bridges before we set our sights for home. We will include lunch while in Parke County. Plan to arrive home this evening with so many wonderful experiences and memories of quilts and covered bridges! B, L
