This new tour highlights several lighthouses from Chesapeake Bay to Ocean City, MD, as well as a visit to Assateague Island to look for wildlife and wild ponies! Don’t miss the bus this fall for an adventure to the Chesapeake and beyond!
Day 1: We will depart bright and early to travel to Annapolis, Maryland for our overnight stay.
Day 2: This morning after breakfast we will enjoy a costumed guided tour of Annapolis. After our tour we will enjoy a cruise to view three lighthouses in Chesapeake Bay. Narration will be given by a Lighthouse Keeper as we view Sandy Point Shoal, Baltimore Harbor, and Thomas Point Lighthouses. Our guide will entertain us with anecdotes and tales of famous keepers and enlighten us with the history of the three structures. A boxed lunch will be included while on the cruise. This afternoon we will travel to Ocean City, MD for our two-night stay. There will be time to relax and enjoy dinner and evening at your leisure. B, L
Day 3: After breakfast we depart for Assateague Island, the most popular attraction in this area, it is beautiful and fascinating to see the horses roaming thru the park and on the beach, and if we’re lucky, see the new foals! We will enjoy an escorted tour of the Island which will include the Assateague Visitor Center where you can enjoy the educational displays, a not-to-be-missed film and gift store. The tour of the island is a driving tour which lends itself to wonderful photo opportunities. We will visit historic Berlin, Md. for shopping and lunch on own. This afternoon we will continue to explore Assateague Island on a 1-hour cruise around the beautiful Assawoman Bay in Ocean City. This narrated cruise is not only educational but relaxing and fun! Whether seeing wild ponies in their natural habitat or experiencing the amazing marine animal touch tank on board, this trip is wonderful. The captain and crew are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to marine biology and the eco-system in Ocean City. We will return to Ocean City to relax and refresh before enjoying dinner included this evening. B, D
Day 4 After breakfast, enjoy a photo opportunity at the Fenwick Island Lighthouse as well as a visit to the unique Discoversea Shipwreck Museum, which houses thousands of artifacts that have been recovered…each with an interesting story. Lunch will be enjoyed on our own at the historic town of Lewes, Delaware. We will include a tour of the historic lightship and learn about its role in guiding ships at sea. This afternoon we will depart for the first leg of our journey home. We will spend overnight near Baltimore. B
Day 5: After breakfast this morning we will depart for home. With stops for rest and lunch, our arrival home is scheduled for early evening. B
