Day 1:
We’ll depart this morning for our drive into the “Heart of Ohio Amish Country”. Our first stop will be in Berlin, the oldest existing village in the area dating back to 1816. Most of the early settlers were of German and Swiss heritage. Now, Berlin is Ohio’s largest Amish community of about 56,000 Amish residents. We meet our local guide for an afternoon of sightseeing. Our first stop will be at the Amish Mennonite Center where you will experience the cyclorama that illustrates Amish and Mennonite history from their early Anabaptist beginnings in Zurich, Switzerland in 1525 to the present day. This unique educational and artistic exhibit will instill a deeper understanding of these peaceful people. Visit Wendell August Forge for a look at how skilled craftsmen create unique designs using pewter, aluminum, and bronze. Also, we will see the World’s Largest Buggy! We will check into the Wallhouse Hotel, nestled in the picturesque backdrop of Walnut Creek. The Wallhouse is upscale, modern with a crisp, refreshing decor and features a kitchenette. Enjoy a fun evening of food and IRISH entertainment with the “Feel Good Fun” of Bob O’Ford. You’re sure to come away being engaged, enlivened and entertained by fun stories and traditional Irish songs. Dinner is included at the Der Dutchman.

Day 2:
After breakfast our local guide will introduce us to the history, highlights and hospitality of this region. For a step back in time, we’ll tour a beautiful 28-room Queen Anne-style Victorian home and the Glass Museum. The home was built around the turn of the 20th Century, has been featured on HGTV, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We’ll include a visit to the Amish Candy Company where you’ll have fun dipping your own mint truffles, a popular St. Patrick’s Day treat. This afternoon, enjoy a demonstration on how candles are carved at Lamp and Light Candle. Each person will get to take a green candle home. We’ll take time to refresh at the hotel before a wonderful evening of food and merriment. Tonight we will include a traditional St. Paddy’s Day feast all made by the local Amish cooks followed by a fun new show entitled “When Amish Eyes are Smiling”. You’re guaranteed to laugh through 2 hours of musical comedy and fun. Be sure to wear your best green attire for this Amish/Irish fun!

Day 3:
This morning we will visit the famous David Warther Museum. You’ll be in awe of his masterpieces such as carving ships from ivory with meticulous scrimshaw work. The tour is fascinating and casual at the same time. Our next stop will be at the Walnut Creek Flea Market. What a variety of items there are to browse! Here, we will enjoy a scavenger hunt! Be on the lookout for shamrocks! We will also visit Walnut Creek Cheese for lunch on our own. Our last stop on our tour will be at the Broad Run Cheese and Swiss Heritage Winery before setting our sights for home. We hope that you will long remember the smiling eyes of our Amish friends in Ohio!
