Day 1: Today we set our sights for the Outer Banks…a 200-mile long string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, known for its temperate climate and wide expanse of open beachfront. Our overnight will be along the way in Virginia.

Day 2: After breakfast, we will depart for the Outer Banks of North Carolina with our first stop at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. This is the only lighthouse in North Carolina that is still housed in its original structure. Built in 1874 this lighthouse stands 158 feet tall. Next we will board a 4WD vehicle and take a wild horse safari along an eleven mile long remote area covering thousands of acres between the northern end of the Outer Banks to the Virginia border. This afternoon we will check into our hotel for an enjoyable and relaxing three night stay. Each room will have a private oceanfront balcony and overlooks some of the widest and most scenic beaches on the Outer Banks. Our dinner will be included this evening.

Day 3: Today’s touring will include a visit to both the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse and the outside of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse which is the international symbol of the North Carolina Coast. A stop will be made at the Museum of the Sea before lunch on your own at Hatteras Landing Shopping Center. This afternoon you will tour the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum and the Chicamaconico Life Saving Station. Dating back to 1874, this is where hundreds of shipwrecked souls were rescued during the days of transport by wind driven sailing ships. Return to the hotel to refresh before we enjoy a delicious meal with waterfront views.

Day 4: This morning will begin with breakfast followed by a day of touring. Visit Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island and stroll through the Elizabethan Gardens, a memorial to the first English colonists in America. Enjoy lunch and time on your own in downtown Manteo. History, education and the arts blend in a lively celebration of Roanoke Island as the Birthplace of English America. This afternoon, refresh at the hotel before tonight’s big treat, a walking ghost tour through downtown Manteo by lantern telling the spooky stories that make the Outer Banks one of the most haunted beaches in America!

Day 5: Following breakfast, we make our final stop at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. In 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright changed the world as their powered airplane flew for 12 seconds before returning to the ground. See the replica of this 1903 flying machine. Then, we set our sights for our overnight destination of Lexington, VA. Enjoy dinner together this evening.

Day 6: We set our sights toward home today, planning to arrive home early this evening with fond memories of a beautiful trip.
