Ohio is both the birthplace of aviation and home to 24 astronauts including John Glenn and Neil Armstrong. Join us on a getaway that celebrates Ohio’s heritage of air and space exploration. Don’t miss the bus (or the spaceship) and sign up early!
Day 1: This morning we will depart for our Space Adventure with our sights set on the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapokeneta. The focus of this museum has remained the same: to stand not only as a repository of Ohio’s aeronautical history and a monument to Ohio’s contribution to aviation and space exploration, but also a tribute to Ohioan Neil Armstrong, whose “one small step for man” was indeed a “giant leap for mankind”. See a moon rock, two full-sized aircraft flown by Armstrong, authentic space suits and more. Our adventure continues north to Cleveland’s Great Lakes Science Center, home to the amazing NASA Glenn Visitor Center, one of only eleven in the country. Discover how astronauts eat, sleep and learn in their “Living in Space” exhibit, step inside the actual 1973 Skylab Lunar Command Module and plan your own space mission in Discover Gallery. We will check into the Drury Plaza Hotel in downtown Cleveland in time to enjoy the kick-back reception.
Day 2: This morning we continue our space adventure with a visit to the Shafran Planetarium. Here we will travel to the farthest reaches of the known Universe and explore the Solar System. We head south to New Concord and enjoy an included lunch before visiting the John & Annie Glenn Home and Museum. As we tour John Glenn’s childhood home we will find ourselves immersed in what life was like during the Great Depression and on the home front in WWII. We’ll discover the stories of John and Annie Glenn through a series of engaging tours, unique collections, treasures and memorabilia from John Glenn’s illustrious military, political and space careers. We will then set our sights for home after a getaway that took us to the moon and back! BL
