Day 1: This morning we will get an early start as we set our sights for our first night in Charlottesville, Virginia. In this lovely region you will enjoy the sights and scenery of the Southern Highlands and the Shenandoah Valley.
Day 2: After an included breakfast we will visit Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, and considered one of the finest estates in America. Jefferson, 3rd U.S. President lived at Monticello from 1770 until his death. You will be amazed at the “modern” inventions Jefferson built into his home as early as 1810! This afternoon we visit Ash-Lawn, home of James Monroe, the 5th President of the U.S. Monroe and his wife owned Ash Lawn-Highland from 1793 to 1826. After visiting these two remarkable Colonial Estates we set our sights for Williamsburg where we will check into our hotel for the next two nights. Our dinner will be included in tour this evening. B, D
Day 3: This morning after an included breakfast we will spend the day visiting and touring Colonial Williamsburg. Our guide will help us explore this 18th century restored capital of Virginia. We will walk the streets where Washington, Jefferson, Patrick Henry and many other great Americans strolled. Nearly a mile in length, the colonial area includes 88 original buildings, shops and homes which have been preserved and restored to their former appearance. Our dinner this evening will be included at an original Tavern before returning to the hotel. B, D
Day 4: After our included breakfast we will first explore another chapter of American history at Jamestown Settlement, the first permanent English colony in the New World. The little band of men who settled here produced glass in 1608, introduced the first commercial tobacco cultivation in 1612 and established this country’s first governing body in 1619. We will have a chance to see the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery, the ships in which these men first braved the open seas. This afternoon we will visit The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Through fascinating and comprehensive indoor exhibits and outdoor living history, Yorktown offers an epic scale of the Revolution and the richness and complexity of this country’s Revolutionary heritage. Upon departing Yorktown we will set our sights for Lexington, Virginia, our overnight destination. B, D
