Day 1: This morning we will begin our “shuffle off to Buffalo” with an enjoyable drive through northern Ohio and western New York, coming to rest for a three-night stay in Buffalo. After checking into our hotel, we will enjoy dinner together this evening. D
Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll visit the Theodore Roosevelt National Historic Site—where one of the most remarkable and unexpected moments in American history unfolded. Following a great personal tragedy, Theodore Roosevelt was thrust into the national spotlight and went on to become one of the most influential presidents in U.S. history. Step inside the home where Roosevelt was sworn into office, explore the place where a new chapter of the American presidency began, and discover the remarkable story of a man whose legacy would shape the nation for generations to come. After our visit, we will depart for nearby Lockport, NY. We will enjoy a 2-hour Lockport Locks & Erie Canal cruise. Three million gallons of water will fill Locks 34 & 35, the only double set on the Erie Canal, and will raise the boat 50 feet. You’ll pass under Lockport’s “Upside Down Bridge”, Lockport’s Big Bridge, through the “deep rock cut” and under lift bridges. The lively narration by the Coast Guard-licensed Captain is accompanied by crowd-pleasing canal music, popular during the 1800s. We will return to Buffalo to refresh before our dinner together this evening. B, D
Day 3: This morning, we will travel to East Aurora for a visit to Vidler’s 5 and 10, a beloved five-and-dime that has delighted visitors for generations with its nostalgic treasures and small-town charm. The village is also known as the home of Millard Fillmore, 13th President of the United States, adding a rich layer of history to this quaint destination. This afternoon, we will visit Our Lady of Victory Basilica & National Shrine, one of western New York’s most exquisite landmarks, attracting millions of visitors worldwide. Rivaling the great churches of Europe, prominent features of the shrine include breathtaking painting and marble sculptures, as well as the Father Baker Museum and OLV gift shop. Then, experience the history and heritage of Buffalo on an entertaining, engaging double-decker bus tour. This “Best of Buffalo” tour will be guided by Officer O’Conner, an Irish cop from the 1800’s who brings to life all the hidden stories of the Queen City. There will be a tour of the Naval and Military Park which will include some walking. During the time at the park, we will walk aboard the USS The Sullivans and the USS Little Rock to experience the stories of the women, men, and machines that have safeguarded freedom. After our tour, we will enjoy a lovely dinner cruise aboard the Grand Lady sailing on the Buffalo River and Lake Erie. Experience the beauty of Buffalo from a whole new perspective as you glide along the sparkling waters of Lake Erie. Enjoy a delicious dinner while taking in breathtaking views of the city skyline and tranquil waterfront. We will return to the hotel after our cruise. B, D
Day 4: This morning we will set our sights for home, planning to arrive this evening after exploring the Legends, Locks, and Landmarks of Buffalo! B
