There are few destinations that offer both the relaxation and beauty that a beach destination can provide along with interesting and historical sightseeing.  We travel along the North Carolina coastline to the Outer Banks where we discover the history of flight, see remarkable lighthouses, experience beautiful white sandy beaches, and so much more.

Day 1:  Today we set our sights for the Outer Banks…a 200-mile string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, known for its temperate climate and wide expanse of open beachfront.  We will stop overnight at the Drury Plaza Richmond, Virginia.

Day 2:  After breakfast, we will depart for the Outer Banks of North Carolina with a photo stop at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.  This evening, we will check into our oceanfront hotel in Corolla, NC for the next three nights.  Enjoy dinner at your leisure this evening. B

Day 3:  Following breakfast, we’ll visit Roanoke Island Festival Park and learn about North Carolina history and legends.  Then, enjoy a leisurely visit to the waterfront town of Manteo on Roanoke Island, home of the Lost Colony.  Tour the Elizabeth II Sailing Ship and the surrounding Settlement Site.  Admission has been included to the North Carolina Aquarium before we enjoy a delicious meal with waterfront views. B, D

Day 4:  This morning, we depart for the Wright Brothers Memorial and Museum to learn about the first flight.  This afternoon we will enjoy some free time at the hotel before enjoying a delightful dinner together this evening. B, D

Day 5:  We depart bright and early this morning for Staunton, Virginia where we will visit the Birthplace and Museum of our 28th President, Woodrow Wilson.  Often called the Manse, this beautifully restored Greek Revival home allows you to experience home life in 1856 in Staunton.  At the Museum you will learn more about our 28th President including the president’s restored 1919 Pierce-Arrow limousine, one of the several highlights of the museum. We will then check into our hotel and enjoy dinner on our own. B

Day 6:  We set our sights toward home, planning to arrive early this evening with fond memories of a beautiful trip to the one-of-a-kind Outer Banks! B
