Springtime in Charleston and Savannah
As we made our way south, we stopped in Spartanburg, South Carolina for the night.
Our first sightseeing attraction on our journey was Middletown Place Gardens. What a step back in time! It was fascinating to see the way of life back then. After arriving in Charleston, we checked into our hotel for our two-night stay. We then headed into the city for our included dinner at Hyman’s Seafood Restaurant. What an amazing meal!
We met our local guide on our third day to show us the city of Charleston, with its wonderful history everywhere! We had time to shop and eat at Market Square. We took a boat ride to Fort Sumter and had some passengers help lower the flag as we were the last boat to visit for the day. We enjoyed a delicious dinner together on James Island at the Charleston Crab House.
Today we enjoyed a visit to Boone Hill Plantation as we stepped back in time to learn about the Slaves who lived and worked here. We had a speaker who gave us a lesson on the Gullah way of life with some talk about their language. This was a very interesting place.
We headed to Savannah for a look at another great Southern City. We enjoyed a Riverboat Dinner Cruise with a great ride on the river as well as a delicious dinner and entertainment.
On our fifth day we headed to Byrd Cookie Company where we got to taste cookies before we purchased them. Then on to the riverfront area for some free time and lunch.
We took an Old Town Trolley Ride to see and learn about the history and parks of Savannah, which was very interesting. We also toured the Savannah Candy Kitchen where we got samples of popcorn, pralines, ice cream, taffy, and hard candy.
We had dinner this evening at the famous Pirate House Restaurant and enjoyed a great meal.
On the sixth day we headed to Tybee Island and saw the Tybee Island Lighthouse. You could even walk to the top as it is only 178 steps.
We headed home after our visit to Tybee Island. We spent the night in Ashville with dinner at the Stone Ridge Tavern, always a delightful experience.
We arrived home the evening of the seventh day, with so many memories of a wonderful time together.
